A person who is on your “Do Not Mail” list can only be re-subscribed by completing the following process. As you can see the screens are ambiguous and misleading, and it is very difficult to get anyone re-subscribed. First you must provide a “Join My Mailing List” link; usually this is on your website. When they click on the link they will get this screen.

After they fill in their email address and click the “Submit” button they will see this screen.

My experience is that most people just quit because they are either misled by #1 and think they are a current member or think that they are re-subscribed by the “Welcome Back!” comment in #2.  Anyhow, for whatever reason people usually quit here, but they will not become active unless they continue.

If and when they click submit they will see this screen.

They will then receive this email.

Again, even if they got this far, they may think they are re-subscribed and have no need to update their profile.  However they are not re-subscribed unless they complete the process.  They must continue by click the “Update your profile” link.

If they select a list, fill in the required information and click on the “Save Profile Changes”, they will be added back to your list.
